Sa bhliain 1891 thug meitheal freineolaithe as Coláiste na Tríonóide, Baile Átha Cliath, faoi
fheachtas staidéir naoi mbliana ag díriú ar chiníocha “primitíbheacha” a bhí ag maireachtáil
le cósta iarthar na hÉireann.
Cuirtear i láthair den chéad uair leis an taispeántas seo, na grianghrafanna a thiomsaigh Charles R. Browne. Tá sé ar chartlann grianghrafadóireachta chomh spéisiúil agus a cuireadh i láthair go poiblí go fóill maidir leis an léargas a thugtar ar an saol le cósta thiar na hÉireann i rith na 1890idí.
In 1891 a group of phrenologists based out of Trinity College Dublin set out on a nine year expedition to study “primitive” races of people living on the west coast of Ireland.
This exhibition presents for the first time, the photographs collected by Charles R. Browne. It is
probably the most fascinating photographic archive to enter the public domain in terms of its depiction of life on the west coast of Ireland in the 1890s.
